According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are reportedly considering making a £4m summer move for Capri striker Jerry Mbakogu after he received the Italian citizenship needed to secure a move to England.
With Pierre-Michel Lasogga likely to return to parent club Hamburg this summer and the likes of Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot struggling to make an impact this season, it is clear that one of the priorities for the Yorkshire outfit is to sign a new centre-forward.
While Mbakogu is clearly near the top of their list of targets, there are also out of favour players in the Premier League who could be considered, like director of football Victor Orta’s Spanish compatriot Joselu, who cost £5m last summer, at Newcastle United.
Having started the campaign in the starting XI under Rafa Benitez, he has found first-team minutes harder to come by in recent months, and could conceivably be sold or loaned out by the Magpies this summer.
We asked Leeds fans to vote on our poll about whether their club should sign Joselu instead of Mbakogu, but 61% of them were against the idea and would obviously prefer the Nigerian, or someone of an even better standard.
Whatever happens during the summer, it is clear that the Whites need some major strengthening of their squad if they are to finally maintain a Championship promotion bid next season.
