Chelsea are considering making a January move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to Don Balon.
What’s the story?
The France international was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer due to his limited game time.
In the end, Giroud opted to stay at the North London outfit, but he is yet to earn a first-team spot.
So far, the 31-year-old has made eight substitute appearances in the Premier League and has started all three of the Gunners’ Europa League matches.
Don Balon reports that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his striker department due to the fact that he has just Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi at his disposal.
Giroud is believed to be the man that the Italian coach wants in January to bolster his options.
Would this be good for Giroud?
The Frenchman’s chances of winning more silverware could be lifted if he made the move to Stamford Bridge.
Also, recently-sacked Everton manager Ronald Koeman told Voetbal International that Giroud rejected the opportunity to move to Merseyside because he wanted to remain in London, which is something that Chelsea can obviously offer.
However, if the striker wants more regular playing time then Stamford Bridge is not the place for him.
He only needs to look at Michy Batshuayi, who started just one league game last season and that was when the title had already been won.
Giroud would only be called upon as back-up, which is the opposite of career progression, even if the striker ends up with more medals.
