Wolves reportedly showed an interest in signing versatile attacker Bilal Brahimi during the January transfer window, prior to his move to Ligue 1 side Nice.
The Lowdown: Wolves have a quiet January
Bruno Lage’s side excelled on the pitch in January, winning four matches in a row before Saturday’s disappointment in the FA Cup.
Despite their fantastic form last month though, they weren’t exactly productive in the boardroom, and it ended up being a largely quiet window, leaving the manager to continue working his magic with the squad at his disposal.
Only Chiquinho arrived to bolster the current ranks, with both Sang-bin Jeong and Hayao Kawabe leaving on loan immediately after signing.
It appears as though Wolves were keen on doing another piece of incoming business in January, however, if a fresh report is to be believed.
The Latest: Interest in Brahimi
According to TEAMtalk, Wanderers were interested in acquiring Brahimi’s signature but he ended up moving from Angers to Nice instead, having once been linked with joining Liverpool.
Fellow British pair Leeds United and Rangers were also thought to be keen on a move for the 21-year-old, who spent part of his youth career at Middlesbrough between 2017 and 2019.
He is a versatile creative winger, having been deployed in seven different midfield and forward positions in his career already, as well as left-back.
The Verdict: Was he needed?
While Brahimi is a good young player who chipped in with 22 goal involvements in 34 appearances for Le Mans – 10 goals and 12 assists – Wolves already look well-stocked in attacking areas.
Granted, they have lost Adama Traore to Barcelona but Pedro Neto is edging towards a hugely exciting return to the side after a long-term injury absence.
With Francisco Trincao, Hwang Hee-chan and Raul Jimenez all good options, too, bringing in Brahimi may have felt like overkill, considering there is no European football as an added commitment this season.
If he had been signed, perhaps he would have simply followed Jeong and Kawabe out on loan.
In other news, Tim Spiers has made an exciting claim regarding one Wolves player. Find out who it is here.
