[ad_pod ]Tottenham Hotspur are set for a huge windfall after qualifying for the Champions League final, per the Swiss Ramble.
What’s the word?
Spurs reached the final after a glorious victory over Ajax in the second leg of the semi-final on Wednesday.
And the Twitter account subsequently broke down the UEFA payouts on Thursday.
As it stands, Spurs are set to receive €102million (£88m) for their participation and their progression to the final.
If they win the competition, they will receive a further €19m (£16.4m), taking their tally to £104.4m in total.
Only Liverpool, their opponents, are set to receive more, with a tally of €107m (£92.3m), that could rise to £108.7m if they are victorious in Madrid.
It is a significant mark-up on last season, with Spurs receiving €61m (£52.6m) after reaching the Round of 16, where they were eliminated by Juventus.
Outlay needed
This is incredible for Spurs but the money needs to be reinvested.
Mauricio Pochettino has worked absolute miracles this season and it is incomprehensible to think that the club are in the Champions League final.
Their squad, though, is remarkably thin; a new striker is needed, along with a central midfielder, a couple of wingers, a central defender and perhaps even two new right-backs.
Thus, having over £100m to spend at the start of the window before player sales are considered would be a major boost to Pochettino.
He has built a Spurs side that can attract the very best players in European football – now he and Levy have to go out and do just that.
