After their 2-0 victory against RB Salzburg in Austria, Liverpool have now confirmed their place in the next round of the Champions League.
By beating Jesse Marsch’s side – and condemning them to the Europa League in the process – the Reds finished top of their group with 13 points. That means they will now face any one of the following sides in the first knockout round of the competition: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Atalanta or Atletico Madrid.
Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…
The draw for the competition will take place on Monday and, in the build-up, the club’s supporters have been discussing who they would like to face in the next round of the competition.
It seems that a lot of supporters want to see the Reds play Los Merengues.
A two-legged tie against the 13-time European champions would give them the chance to exert revenge on Real. Zinedine Zidane’s side, of course, beat the Anfield outfit 3-1 in the final of this very competition two years ago.
Some fans, though, don’t care who their team faces: they are confident of beating any of them.
That is hopefully the kind of spirit Jurgen Klopp and his team are taking into the draw. Considering they are the champions, it is unlikely they will be thinking any differently.
One fan doesn’t even care about the next round: he already thinks his team have the trophy won!
He certainly isn’t short of confidence. But, given the way the Reds have played so far this campaign – they have lost just one game in all competitions and are still in every tournament they have competed in – that belief is not unfounded.
In other news, this reported Liverpool target has a lot of growing up to do.
