After suffering yet another laborious home defeat last time out at Old Trafford – this time at the hands of Ronald Koeman’s determined Southampton outfit – Louis van Gaal has once again seen a great deal of speculation and doubt surround his current position in the Manchester United dug-out.
The Red Devils seemed well on course to turning that all-important corner with hard-earned victories against both Swansea City and Liverpool this month, but seeing as this is a side who have admittedly looked far from convincing all season truth be told, maybe such an ask will ultimately prove too much for the long-standing Premier League club this season.
So then, as Louis van Gaal has certainly witnessed the lion’s share of responsibility pointed in his direction in recent weeks – should the 64-year-old tactician simply pack his bags at Old Trafford right in the here and now, or is the enigmatic Dutchman really to blame for what’s gone so badly wrong at Manchester United in 2015/16?
Well, despite initially arriving among the Premier League with a pretty impressive reputation across the European managerial circuit, Louis van Gaal has subsequently shown very little of his previous expertise when it has come to doing the business among the English top-flight.
This current Manchester United side have lacked a sense of goal-scoring potency on almost every given occasion this season, the team seems somewhat unable to pick itself to due several fluctuating performances from the players – and as recent score-lines down at Old Trafford have been anything but entertaining in the cold light of day – it now remains difficult to imagine the Red Devils somehow turning things around this term.

Due to United’s sheer lack of excitement and often ‘ugly’ approach to winning certain matches, Louis van Gaal has arguably turned his star-studded side into one of the most boring teams currently operating within the Premier League. Although every outfit must seemingly pay host to a somewhat transitional stage at the club within the grand scheme of things, such an outcome is something we’d previously never expect from a side once as dominant as Manchester United.
Like the dramatically ill-fated Jose Mourinho down at Stamford Bridge before him this season, Louis van Gaal seems progressively less aware of how to remedy his current situation with every passing week these days. His most recent press conferences and post-match interviews have become more and more confused and convoluted by the minute, which may potentially allude to a somewhat breakdown in communication behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
However, as the Manchester United players themselves have certainly failed to do their fans justice throughout the majority of the 2015/16 campaign thus far, maybe LVG doesn’t quite deserve all the blame after all…
Louis van Gaal’s squad arguably isn’t well equipped enough to begin launching genuine title attempts in this current footballing climate when all is said and done. The Manchester United boardroom staff have taken too many risks on a succession of big-money moves, rather than looking to build a well-balanced squad with real potential to re-assert their dominance back among the Premier League once again.
The Red Devils pay witness to one to many central-midfielders with all things considered, certainly not enough recognised strikers to keep the goals flying in at Old Trafford this campaign – and a captain in the shape of Wayne Rooney who has arguably failed to portray anything close to a world class player in many a season now.
But even though the blame for what has gone wrong down at Manchester United this season clearly doesn’t lie exclusively at the feet of Louis van Gaal – no one can really excuse the Dutchman for employing such obviously stale and unentertaining tactics at Old Trafford this term…
…and on the basis of such an unavoidable notion for the Red Devils faithful, the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss could certainly see his time within the Premier League come to a rather abrupt end in the not too distant future.
